Towhid Hridoy Scores Maiden Test Century Amid Bangladesh Collapse

Towhid Hridoy stood firm at one end as wickets continued to fall around him, scoring his maiden Test century against the West Indies in the second Test in Sylhet. His hundred helped Bangladesh cross the 200-run mark amid a batting collapse.

In September, Hridoy made history by becoming the first Bangladeshi batter to score 350 runs in a first-class innings. That performance in South Africa raised the possibility of his inclusion in the national Test side. He has now marked his third Test appearance with his maiden century.

Bangladesh had already lost the opening Test in Mirpur and struggled again in the final match of the series. After opting to bat, the hosts kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Hridoy, however, held one end together and kept the innings moving.

He reached the three-figure mark off 171 deliveries. He then celebrated the milestone by removing his helmet and resting his bat against it. At the lunch break, Hridoy remained unbeaten on 100 from 171 balls, hitting 11 fours and one six.

Thanks to his century, Bangladesh crossed the 200-run mark. At the interval, the hosts were 205 for seven, still trailing the West Indies’ first-innings total by 151 runs.
