Ashraful Says ‘No Injustice’ After Losing Bangladesh Batting Coach Role

Mohammad Ashraful has been removed from his position as batting coach of the Bangladesh national cricket team. Mohammad Salahuddin has been appointed as the interim batting coach. Speaking to the media after losing the role, the former Bangladesh cricketer said he did not believe he had been treated unfairly.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) officially announced Ashraful’s removal on Saturday. Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Ashraful said he had learned about the decision the previous evening.

“I found out yesterday. After Maghrib, I was told that I had been relieved of my duties as the national team’s batting coach. I will be informed when there is an assignment over the next three months,” he said.

Ashraful insisted that the decision did not amount to unfair treatment.

“There has been no injustice against me. The BCB has removed me in accordance with its rules. If necessary, the board will assign me to a different role,” he said.

Explaining the terms of coaches’ contracts, he added, “Our contracts as coaches are structured in such a way that the cricket board can assign us to work elsewhere if it wishes. That is within its authority.”

Ashraful also highlighted the Bangladesh Test team’s performance during his tenure as batting coach. He said he began the role with the Ireland series in November 2025.

“I said at the time that our Test team was the most organised and experienced. If you look at the results, after I took charge, we won five of eight Tests, Alhamdulillah, and drew one,” he said.

He also pointed to the batters’ averages and scoring records during the period.

“The batters’ averages were around 50–52 or 45. They were all performing well. There were nine centuries and around 22–23 half-centuries in eight Tests. Partnerships of 100 runs also became frequent,” Ashraful added.

Under the BCB’s decision, Mohammad Salahuddin will serve as Bangladesh’s interim batting coach.
