November 7 Marks a New Beginning After Breaking the Chains of Subjugation: Dr Shahadat

Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Administrator Dr Shahadat Hossain has said that November 7 is an important chapter in the history of Bangladesh. It marks the beginning of a new journey after breaking the chains of subjugation.

He made the remarks on Saturday (November 7) after paying tribute with floral wreaths at Biplob Udyan in the city’s Sholoshahar No. 2 Gate area, a site associated with the memory of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman. The tribute was organised on behalf of Chattogram City Corporation to mark National Revolution and Solidarity Day.

Dr Shahadat said the significance of November 7 as a symbol of national unity, the spirit of independence and solidarity was undeniable. The united role of soldiers and the people had ushered in a new chapter in the country’s political history.

“In the current context, the significance of this day is particularly important. To sustain the country’s democratic progress and development, everyone must come forward together, inspired by the spirit of the Liberation War and upholding Shaheed Zia’s ideals,” he said.

He further said the spirit of November 7 must be upheld to counter the dominance of foreign powers. Recalling Ziaur Rahman’s role in the 1971 Liberation War, he said soldiers and civilians had freed him from confinement on November 7 and brought him to the centre of power.

Dr Shahadat said the November 7 revolution had thwarted a conspiracy to bind the country in the chains of subjugation. He stressed the need to spread the spirit of the day among the younger generation to protect the country’s independence and sovereignty and move forward through national unity.

The CCC administrator described Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman as a key figure in Bangladesh’s independence, sovereignty and democracy. He said that when Ziaur Rahman declared independence in 1971, he knew that doing so could lead to a court-martial. Nevertheless, he took a courageous stand in support of the country’s freedom-loving people, without considering the possible consequences for himself.

“Under his leadership, the country moved forward on the path of reconstruction, and the process of people’s empowerment began,” he said.

He added that November 7 holds considerable significance in the history of Bangladesh’s independence, democracy and people’s economic emancipation. He called on everyone to work together to protect the country’s independence and sovereignty while upholding national unity and democratic values.

“Our pledge today should be to work together, upholding the patriotism, honesty and ideals of Shaheed Ziaur Rahman, to build a developed, prosperous and justice-based Bangladesh,” he said.
