BRTC Bus Gutted in Early Morning Fire in Khagrachhari

A BRTC bus was completely gutted in a fire in Mahajanpara area of Khagrachhari town early Saturday morning (November 7, 2026). The driver, who was sleeping inside the bus at the time, escaped unharmed.

The fire broke out at around 4:25 am. Hearing the driver’s cries for help, local residents contacted the Fire Service. Later, three fire service units arrived at the scene and brought the blaze under control.

BRTC ticket seller Bidyut Chakma said he received a phone call about the incident at around 4:00 am. When he reached the spot, he found the bus already engulfed in flames. However, it was not immediately clear who set the bus on fire or why.

Mukul Kumar Nath, station officer of Khagrachhari Fire Service, confirmed that fire service personnel responded to the incident and extinguished the blaze.

Meanwhile, Khagrachhari district BNP General Secretary MN Absar alleged that activists of the banned Awami League, Jubo League and Chhatra League might have been involved in the incident. He also suggested that individuals involved in previous acts of violence and unrest might have assisted in setting the bus on fire.

Police said miscreants had set the bus on fire. Officer-in-Charge of Khagrachhari Sadar Police Station said a case would be filed in connection with the incident. The identities of those responsible have not yet been established, and police are investigating the matter.
