123 Applications Submitted to Adopt Rescued Newborn in Fatikchhari, Interviews Underway
There has been an overwhelming response to the prospect of adopting a baby girl rescued from bushes beside a road in Fatikchhari, Chattogram. A total of 123 applications were submitted in just one day by people willing to take responsibility for raising the child.
Interviews with the applicants were conducted at the Fatikchhari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO)’s office until Saturday night (October 24).
According to upazila administration sources, the authorities are working to select a suitable family after considering the applicants’ family environment, financial capacity, ability to care for the child and other relevant factors.
However, submitting an application does not guarantee the opportunity to adopt the baby. The relevant authorities will conduct the necessary screening and follow the applicable legal procedures before making a decision.
Fatikchhari UNO Saeed Mohammad Ibrahim told the media that a large number of applications had been submitted to adopt the child. He said the selection of a suitable family was being treated as a matter of particular importance and that a final decision would be made only after the necessary verification and legal procedures.
Earlier, at around 7:30 pm on Thursday (October 22), the newborn girl was rescued alive from bushes beside a road in the Amtali area of North Paindong, under Paindong Union of Fatikchhari Upazila.
Local residents spotted the baby lying in the bushes and informed the police. Members of Fatikchhari Police Station subsequently went to the scene and rescued the child.
The baby was taken to a hospital after the rescue. According to preliminary information from the relevant sources, her physical condition was good.
However, the identity of the person or persons who left the baby there remains unknown.
Local residents have called for steps to ensure the child’s safe future by selecting a suitable family, while also investigating the circumstances surrounding her abandonment and identifying those responsible.
